Egypt: Grants for diaspora organizations working on human rights (closes 30 April)

Minority Rights Group is accepting applications from Egyptian diaspora organizations for advocacy grants. These grants are available to amplify voices and increase attention and amplify the voices of religious, ethnic and gender minorities in Egypt as well as mainstream minority rights in non-minority organizations.
The grants aim to enhance international advocacy efforts for minority rights. Initiatives that leverage intersectional approaches, data management, and sustainable advocacy strategies to drive change are encouraged to apply. This initiative encourages collaboration between diverse organizations and individuals to address social inequalities, enhance advocacy efforts, and amplify underrepresented voices. Successful applicants will benefit from mentorship, expert feedback, and potential funding opportunities.
These grants are part of the Strengthening Minority Voices programme implemented between 2023 to 2026. It aims to promote and protect the rights of Egypt’s religious, ethnic and gender minorities through enhanced advocacy, improved resilience and protection of activists and minority rights defenders and increased collaboration among minority and majority civil society organisations.
Budget available and timeframe
For organizations: 10,000 euros
For initiatives and small groups: 4,000 euros
Grants available: 4 grants
Timeline: The duration of the grant may last a maximum of 9 months.

Who Can Apply?
Civil society organizations, NGOs, small groups of activists, think tanks, research centers, and advocacy groups working in part or entirely outside Egypt. Organizations registered abroad but operating entirely in Egypt are not eligible.
Organizations must be able to receive funding.
Must have noticeable experience in financial and narrative reports development and M&E.
Examples of activities this grant will cover:
- Advocacy for minority rights through international advocacy initiatives.
- Public awareness campaigns using media and other outreach efforts to engage the wider public.
- Documentation, monitoring, and reporting on issues affecting minority communities.
- A component on international advocacy is required for this grant.
Eligible proposals must include:
- A clear project title and well-defined logic that outlines the intended impact and how to achieve it.
- A strong justification explaining the issue being addressed, its significance, and why it requires action.
- A detailed methodology, including key activities, target groups, and implementation strategies.
- A monitoring and evaluation plan outlining how the project’s impact and effectiveness will be measured.
- Include a realistic risk assessment and mitigation strategy.
- A sustainability strategy detailing how the project will remain viable beyond the initial funding period and to ensure long-term impact.
- A realistic and well-justified budget, ensuring alignment with project activities and objectives.
- Robust diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) methods in project design and implementation, demonstrating how diversity, equity, and accessibility will be integrated into the project.
Selection Criteria:
- The proposal must be relevant to the call, aiming to advocate for the rights of religious, ethnic, and/or gender minorities.
- The project should have a clear logic explained through; stated objectives, outcomes, activities, and implementation strategy.
- The proposal should have been designed in a participatory manner with the minorities the intervention aims to focus on.
- The proposal should clearly justify a budget that represents value for money and efficiency
- Strong plan for outreach and community engagement that effectively reaches target beneficiaries.
- The proposal will ensure the project’s sustainability even after the intervention is over.
- The proposal will show commitment to addressing gender and social inclusion, considering intersectional and multiple forms of discrimination.
- The proposal will show a collaborative approach that fosters partnerships between minority and majority groups and mainstream minority rights.
- Protocols for digital and physical security to protect staff and beneficiaries.
- The granted organizations must commit to the following if accepted for this grant:
- Completing the online training course on building technical capacity to increase their technical skills in advocacy and public engagement.
- Potentially attending an advocacy training and meeting in Brussels
