European Institute of Peace** ( www.eip.org) is an independent organisation working collaboratively with the parties to the conflict, those who represent people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, as well as European decision-makers and the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community.

We provide practical experience, technical expertise, and policy advice on conflict resolution. We use a variety of tools to help us do this, including analysis, mapping and design of peace processes and agreements, facilitating policy discussions, and proposing practical engagement, for example through inclusive dialogue and mediation support.

We are looking for a Programme Assistant to support the Institute’s Great Lakes Region and West Africa programme.

You will

Research & Design

  • Support administration related to the Institute’s mediation and dialogue
    projects in the Great Lakes and West Africa Region
  • Monitor developments in the Great Lakes Region and West African conflict
    contexts and develop knowledge that feeds into the analysis developed by the
    Institute
  • Conduct project-related research and compile briefing materials

Project Management

  • Contribute to the day-to-day implementation of assigned projects (such as
    events planning and logistics, travel booking and administrative follow-up, in
    particular events planning and logistics, scheduling and drafting notes from
    meetings)
  • Administrative support of assigned projects (such as processing of invoices,
    expense claims and timesheets)
  • Contribute to drafting of internal and external reports, concept notes and
    project proposals
  • Support on compliance with internal policies and guidelines, as well as with
    donor regulations

Internal & External communication

  • Contribute to smooth internal and external communication flows
  • Take part in internal and external meetings and regularly engage with
    colleagues within the Institute to ensure coordination on new and ongoing
    project activities
  • Work closely with colleagues to compile briefing materials for internal and
    external audiences and events, including preparation of speeches for senior
    leadership

Relationship building

  • Support team efforts to engage with donors and stakeholders (such assetting up meetings and calls, draftingformal and informal correspondence,
    note-taking andinternal follow-up).

Your skills and experience
  • University degree in political science, conflict resolution, international
    relations, Economy, Administrative Sciences or related field
  • Minimum 1 year of experience (as trainee, intern or assistant) in an
    international/multicultural organisation
  • Basic understanding of project management, in particular in relation to
    administrative and logistics tasks
  • Understanding of the political and economic situation of the region under the
    scope of the programme, of the conflict contexts within those countries, and of
    the geopolitical developments that are taking place in the region as a whole is
    an asset
  • Full proficiency in English and French is required.
